To receive a rebate, your design must include:

• At least 3 plants per 100 sq. ft. of converted area

• A stormwater retention feature (e.g., rain barrel)

• No non-permeable hardscape (e.g., concrete) in the rebate area
  (Non-permeable hardscape outside the rebate area is allowed but not eligible.)

• Replacement or modification of overhead sprinklers (e.g., conversion to drip irrigation)

No. You can design the landscape that works best for you. Rebates apply only to turf removal areas with a new design that meets the socalwatersmart.com program requirements.

You do not have to remove all of your lawn. The design must include a portion of the lawn being removed — at least 250 square feet.

Note that eligibility for a design and completing a design does not guarantee eligibility for a turf rebate.

Yes — and it’s highly recommended. Yardzen’s designers are knowledgeable about firescaping and home hardening strategies. They can incorporate defensible space, fire-resistant plants, and smart design elements to help protect your home while creating a beautiful, water-efficient landscape.

Not directly. Yardzen specializes in design. After your design is finalized, we connect you with trusted local contractors who can carry out the installation according to your approved plans.

Most designs are completed within a few weeks, depending on project complexity. After that, you’ll coordinate installation with your contractor.

• Your discount code is good for up to one year.

• Turf removal rebate amounts may change depending on available funding. Once your application is approved, your rebate amount is locked in for six months.

To receive a rebate through socalwatersmart.com, you’ll need to apply before removing any turf.

Once your application is approved and your rebate is reserved, you’ll have 180 days to complete your project and with a new landscape that meets program requirements (ex: number of plants, stormwater retention, and water efficient irrigation.).

After the work is done, submit your final photos and documentation online. Some projects may require an inspection before the rebate is issued.

Once your post-project documentation is approved, rebates are typically issued within 8–10 weeks. Processing time can vary depending on your local water agency and whether an inspection is required.

The Your Smart Yard program is made possible through a partnership between Las Virgenes Municipal Water District, Los Angeles County Waterworks District 29, West Basin Municipal Water District, California Department of Water Resources, and Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

LVMWD, Waterworks, and West Basin secured funding through a California Department of Water Resources Proposition 1 Round 2 Integrated Regional Water Management (IRWM) Implementation Grant, which supports innovative water conservation and efficiency initiatives throughout the region.
